The final piece in phase one of Chesterfield’s ambitious Northern Gateway regeneration scheme is now complete.
The new flagship Northern Gateway Enterprise Centre, which is located directly opposite Elder Way, is now officially open with several tenants already working there.
It provides 32 office suites for new and expanding businesses and builds on the success of Chesterfield Borough Council’s Dunston and Tapton Innovation Centres which are home to 90 companies.
The new Enterprise Centre is ideally located for all town centre amenities, particularly Elder Way where office workers will simply have to navigate a pedestrian crossing to grab a coffee, lunch or after work drinks from businesses located in the new street level units.
Both Elder Way and the new Enterprise Centre are part of the £19.9million Northern Gateway project.
As well as the Enterprise Centre and transformation of the iconic 1920s iconic former Co-op department store into several street level, contemporary units targeted at food and drink businesses, the project also comprised the redevelopment of the Saltergate multi-storey car park, and improvements to the public space at Elder Way and Knifesmithgate.
The investment, regeneration and new construction which has been undertaken over the last five years, has created an attractive northern entrance to Chesterfield town centre for the thousands of visitors, students, workers, and residents who use it each day.
The Northern Gateway Enterprise Centre was officially opened by Councillor Terry Gilby, formerly the council’s member for economic growth who started the project in 2017.
Councillor Tricia Gilby, leader of the council, said: “The opening of the Northern Gateway Enterprise Centre represents the completion of the first phase of the Northern Gateway master plan. It will support local people to bring to life their business ideas and strengthen the local economy as we recover from the effects of the pandemic.
“We’ve built on our experiences at Tapton and Dunston Innovation Centres to develop this new building and with nine local businesses already signed up take space it is already evident that we have been successful in creating a modern environment where Chesterfield’s budding entrepreneurs can collaborate and flourish. We look forward to welcoming more tenants to the centre over the coming months.”
Hospitality businesses that wish to be part of Northern Gateway are invited to view the units at Elder Way which are available now at negotiable terms.
There are seven unique street level units, ranging from 1,420 sq. ft and 4,219 sq. ft., each with glazed frontages and their own access available. There is also a large basement area, ideal for leisure-based businesses, like Escape Rooms, yoga centres or even a spa.
