Businesses are set to enjoy a drink on Elder Way next month.
Around 200 people will be gathering at The Winding Wheel for the town’s annual Love Chesterfield Awards on the 12 October. Elder Way has sponsored the welcome drink reception at the sell-out black-tie awards ceremony.
Following 1500 public nominations, a shortlist of 34 businesses are now in the running for 15 awards, including the coveted Retailer of the Year title.
This year the awards’ shortlist has been dominated by first-time finalists with 11 of them being brand new businesses on Chesterfield’s high street. Around 40 businesses have opened in Chesterfield town centre over the last 18 months putting it on track to meet Chesterfield Borough Council’s ambition to ‘be the go-to place to live, work, socialise and shop.’
Councillor Kate Sarvent, Chesterfield Borough Council’s cabinet member for town centres and visitor economy, said: “We’re making a significant investment across our town centre which will further boost business confidence by attracting more visitors and shoppers. Our town centre will be the go-to place to live, work, socialise and shop.”
For investors looking for town centre premises for their new business, the fully flexible units at Elder Way, which range in size from 1,420 sq.ft to 16,076 sq.ft, offer a central location and are ready for tenants now. There is also a large basement area, which is ideal for leisure-based businesses.
Elder Way offers a choice of seven fully accessible street level units all with glazed frontages. The wide pavement, trees and attractive street furniture make the units at Elder Way ideal for food and drink businesses wishing to capitalise on the increasingly popular outdoor dining trend.
Businesses located at Elder Way will also benefit from the from the popular 92-bedroom Premier Inn hotel located above the street level units within the building.
In addition to awards for independent, hospitality and retail businesses, the Love Chesterfield Awards line-up also includes awards for Sustainability Apprentice of the Year, Entrepreneur of the Year and the Regeneration Award which Elder Way was shortlisted for in the 2021.
Mark Hill, Commercial Property Director at Jomast Developments, which has led the regeneration of the former Co-op department store on Elder Way commented: “I’m thrilled to see the Love Chesterfield Awards return for another year. There’s so much to celebrate in the town right now, from the new businesses that have opened to the game-changing developments. Chesterfield has a thriving hospitality scene as testified by the number of food and drink businesses shortlisted in the awards this year.”
