Launch day success for Hotpod Yoga Chesterfield at Elder Way

Thursday, April 18th, 2024

The Hotpod Yoga Chesterfield franchise has opened its doors in Chesterfield town centre.

The opening on Thursday 18 April, in one of the new units in the former Elder Way Co-op department store, signals the launch of the popular yoga concept in Chesterfield.

Owner of Hotpod Yoga Chesterfield, Chris Wilkinson, officially cut the ribbon to the new yoga studio and welcomed attendees to the studio’s first class.

Hotpod Yoga occupies one of seven street level units created in the iconic Elder Way building by developer Jomast.

The new yoga studio is situated in Unit 7 on Elder Way. Chris has transformed the unit into a welcoming reception area and changing and showering facilities in addition to the gigantic inflatable Hotpod.

Speaking at the launch he said: “I am delighted to bring Hotpod Yoga to Chesterfield town centre. Everyone has been so welcoming. Interest in the classes has been high and we  are already building a Hotpod Yoga community in Chesterfield. Our bookings are strong over the next month, and we have sold over 40 of the class passes and memberships via the website and through the Hotpod Yoga app.”

The immersive yoga experience cocoons people in a pod in 37-degree heat, with relaxing sounds and calming scents.

A former NHS mental health nurse, Chris is also a qualified yoga teacher. In addition to him, he has also recruited a number of yoga practitioners, including Gemma Stilton, who will support him along with seven other teachers in operating classes seven days a week at Hotpod Yoga Chesterfield from 6.30am.

Gemma held one of the first classes at the new studio and also assisted with the ribbon cut alongside the first person to book a class. They were later joined by Karen Hallows who taught an evening class. All the teachers are on the timetable for the rest of the launch weekend.

Emma Loughlin, who attended the studio’s first class said: “I loved my first session. It was wonderful to be fully immersed in the darkened pod. I found it really relaxing and I’ve booked a pass to do more classes, I can’t wait for my next one. I’m tempted to try the Nurturing Flow classes which are supposed to be great for unwinding and helping you to feel calm.”

Plans are in place to extend free passes to community groups who would benefit from the holistic properties of yoga within a group setting. A number of local businesses, including Bottle and Thyme, have also arranged for their staff to access classes.

The opening of the Hotpod Yoga studio is a further step in Elder Way’s ambition to become a leisure and hospitality destination. Already the building is home to a popular Premier Inn hotel on its upper floors and developer Jomast is reporting strong interest from further operators in the remaining units.

Mark Hill, Jomast’s Commercial Property Director welcomed Hotpod Yoga Chesterfield to Elder Way saying: “I am delighted to welcome Chris and his business to Elder Way and wish him every success in this exciting venture. As Chris has seen, the whole process from his initial enquiry to us to opening his new business here, has been smooth and straightforward.”

Chris explained: “The location is perfect for us. A prominent position in the town centre, convenient parking and plenty of space for our heated pod, showers, toilets, changing and reception areas. The fit out has gone really well. Jomast has helped us to get up and running in the building to ensure that we have opened on time.”

Six units remain available as well as a large basement area. The units are being marketed by joint agents, WSB Property and FHP.
